How To Find Your “Gift”

“What are my talents or gifts?”

“What do I have that I can give back to the world?”

“Why am I here?”

“What can I do that will make me money?”

Those are all very important questions, yet most people are not sure how to find the answers. “What can I do that will make me money?” also tends to be the first, if not the ONLY question many people ask themselves. To tell you the truth, if you’re honestly living your passion, it won’t matter if you’re “making money” at it, or not. It just so happens that those who are true to themselves, and are using their talents and gifts, can actually make a good amount of money!

In order to get the answers you need, you must first ask the right questions.

So, how do you know what to ask NOW? You may have heard about a little thing called “Personal Development”. What you read, watch, listen to, and participate in, has everything to do with your evolution – personally and professionally. When you start to get outside your own mind, and take in the thoughts of great leaders and spiritual representatives, the better questions start coming to you easily. And so do the answers…

Another method I found effective in my own quest for “answers” and direction – going back to the beginning. What did I enjoy as a child? What was I told I would be good at? What am I naturally good at NOW? What am I doing when I lose all track of time? These types of questions can give you some of the answers, or at least some direction. Now if your favorite past time is playing video games all hours, that doesn’t mean that’s what you’re supposed to be doing! So look at it with a list of pros and cons: skills needed to excel (depending on the game, you may need to be analytical or have great hand-eye coordination); time management may be a con…..

The bottom line is this – to get the best answers to your deepest hearts desires, you must improve your questions.

INSANITY – Cardio Recovery Day (Mental Issues Here!)

Our mental blocks really do screw with us! The manner in which we talk to ourselves CAN be changed – Let’s just be honest about that! All the mental chatter I had going on this morning (while trying my best to FOCUS on my workout) was seriously undermining what I was trying to accomplish. It is my goal every day with this INSANITY workout, to PUSH THROUGH IT as much as I can physically handle, without going overboard. Injury will sideline you, if the moves are not done in correct form, or with focus. So at the very least, do it right, all the way through to the end. At least at some point you get so tired, your brain just kind of shuts up for a minute!

KEEP MOVING FORWARD!!

There is this small but powerful river of doubt and frustration in the back of my mind – and I’m aware of it. Being aware of your issues is a great step toward overcoming them. My Life Coach Kim Somers told me to make decisions and perform actions that keep me moving in a forward-positive direction. My daily goal for the workouts is to NOT SIT DOWN! It doesn’t matter how tired I am, or how much I want to quit, as long as I’m standing, there is hope for me!

You would think by the title of the DVD, this workout would have taken pity on a weary body….YEAH RIGHT! I actually think this one was MORE INSANE! That’s fine. Bring it on! But be gentle, please.  :-)

A couple of the moves I couldn’t even do…weak wrists I guess. At least my feet don’t hurt today! This morning was the toughest mentally for me. My alarm went off at 6am, and I did not want to move out of my comfy bed! Once I had my clothes and shoes on, I was SURE there was something else I had to do before we started. NOPE – just delaying the inevitable! So we started the workout, which seemed harmless enough, since we weren’t immediately jumping around. As I learned from yoga, however, you don’t need to jump up and down to break a sweat. Slow moves and held poses can kill your muscles just the same! With my heart rate still up, my core was worked as well as my arms. Actually, there was no muscle group spared in this DVD!!

At the end of the workout I realized how fast the time flied. While I wrestled with my doubts and desire to lay down, we made it through to the end. 47 minutes went by like a flash….then it was over. With the rest of my day ahead of me, I felt empowered. Only a few minutes until my 2 year old woke up, and another hour until my 1 year old woke up. There were things to do, no time to lay down!

While this post is mainly about the INSANITY workout, the mental block issue can be applied to relationships and business. The point is to keep moving forward in a positive way. Keep moving. Keep moving. Keep moving. Do everything that will get you to where you want to be. If your WHY is strong enough, you’ll do what it takes to get there!

Growing Forward With You,

Does Balance Exist?

For anyone out there that has attempted to BALANCE their life, things seem to get a bit more hectic as time goes on, does it not?

Balance does not exist in this day and age – not the way it was meant to anyway. Balance is defined as : “A state in which opposing tendencies are equal.” and “Satisfying arrangement marked by even distribution of elements, as in a design.”

What this means in the life of a Mommy (or anyone else with more than one thing to do!), is that balance is achieved when you get everything done that is on your To Do list! Yet, for many of us, our To Do list items tend to roll over like AT&T unused cell phone minutes! We have compartmentalized everything we are and do. Wake up and get dressed, wake up the kids, get kids dressed and fed, make coffee, start laundry, make calls, check emails, clean up kids and play (or teach, or take to school), do dishes, blog, work on business, lunch, naps for kids, work some more, what’s for dinner?, pay bills, make more calls, special projects, who’s birthday did I miss?, wake up kids, grocery shopping (and any other errand) – I’m too tired to continue, but I’m sure you get the point!

When you get to the end of the day, how many things did you miss? How many things got transferred to tomorrow?

If you’re a mom that works outside the home, there are different challenges to your schedule, but the end of the day looks the same. We beat ourselves up trying to “do it all” and do it all everyday.

If you notice, that list didn’t include any down time – no Calgon bath, no workout, no meditation, no personal development (like reading or writing in a journal).

It seems we have put all of our To Do’s and Projects outside ourselves. We have made them “things” to do, and not A Way To Live and Bring Happiness and Peace to those in our lives (and in our world). Besides that, we have put ourselves last (or not even on the list!).

This is the age of INTEGRATION. If we are to BE the women, wives, mothers, and people we are here to be, then we must let go of our old ways of doing things. Personally, the way I was taught to achieve Balance, was that certain things had to be given up if I was to accomplish a goal. No longer! We have been integrating medicine for years – natures ancient wisdom with modern technologies. Now it’s time to focus on our OWN ancient wisdom. Our Spirit knows what it’s here to do, yet we muddle it down with disconnection. We DO instead of BE. Think about it – we are supposed to be humans being, yet we live as humans doing.

So what does it mean to integrate our Being with our Doing? Mindfulness has been the most important lesson for me, I think. Be in the here and now, with whatever you’re doing. Stop thinking about what you didn’t do or do well, or what you still have to do later! Focus on what you are doing right now, and do it. BE it.

With the birth of my first daughter, I searched for a way to balance my day and my life. I was so tired (as new mommies are), and wanted to still be able to clean the house and all that stuff. Not only could I not find the energy, I had no idea what I was doing or where to start! One day, I stumbled onto a website called The Flylady. BLESS HER! Bless her system for getting stuff done – “You can do anything for 15 minutes” she says.

Long story short, she has you do what is called a Home Blessing Hour once a week. The word “Blessing” made me think: We tend to forget what or whom we are doing things for. Take for example housework. Instead of saying to yourself that you have to do dishes or laundry, think about who that is for. How it benefits the people in your life to have a nice place to live or clean clothes to wear. It’s a way to LOVE your family. Keeping your house clean allows so many wonderful things to happen! You have a nice place to live, you can entertain guests without notice, your kids have respect for you and learn to respect their things.

This thoughtfulness applies to business as well. That is why it is SO important to be involved with people and business that align with your core values. I understand that you sometimes have to “work” to make money. But understand that what you DO deserves the attention and intention of who you ARE. Allow yourself to BE yourself with whatever you do, and whoever you meet. The Universe will give you more of what you put out there and focus on, so make sure you’re going in the direction you want.

Thoughts are things! Put out to the Universe that you hate your job, and you may not have it much longer! The Universe just gave you what you asked for….think about it. So, if you need to work somewhere for the money, appreciate what you’ve got, and keep moving toward what you want. That money you’re making may just help you get there, and the connections and friendships you make can become the most incredible resources for the future (and if you’re starting a business and need customers or partners….that’s right!).

INTEGRATION of your Spirit into everything on your To Do list, makes for a much more enjoyable and fulfilling time! Even if you don’t get it all done, everything was still done with love and peace in mind. Putting music on helps too! My kids and I dance and sing while doing dishes. Well, I do the dishes, but they help! At 2.5 and 1 year old, they are growing up learning that “chores” do not exist, only Blessings. I read somewhere that someone wrote their to do list and called it “My Parade of Daily Adventures”. LOVE IT!

How can you INTEGRATE today?

Not Everyone Likes You! And Why That’s Preferred.

BE YOURSELF

Sounds easy, right? It is, if you know who you are, and what you want. Many people are barely making it day to day, between family time, work, financial frustrations, and everything else that pulls them away from developing themselves, through relaxation and other personal development tools. Yes, I said relaxation was a personal development tool. If you don’t relax and recharge the batteries once in a while, you burn out. There is no moving forward when you’re burned out. So make sure you take time to just kick back once in a while, and take care of YOU.

Blogging has become an incredible way for people to express themselves, whether it’s just for fun or a foundation for business. For as many blogs I have read over the past few years, something stuck out in my mind recently. With the “business blogs”, there is a huge difference between those who are starting out, and those who have been in the game for a while (AND have been successful) Branding themselves. Those who know what they are doing, know how to position themselves with the right people, and get the traffic they want.

How did they do that? How is your competition edging you out? It’s something so small, yet most people fear doing it – BE YOURSELF.

When you are Branding yourself for business (or even just blogging for fun), it’s important to know who you are, and what kind of audience you want to attract. STOP feeling like you have to be general, or leave things out about yourself, just to “appeal to the masses” because you think that will make everyone like you, and you’ll get more hits. Is it really that important to have EVERYONE like you?

Think about it this way: what you are leaving out, or are afraid will turn people away, may be keeping the RIGHT people away! The very people you want reading your blogs are not interested because you don’t appear to have enough in common! Imagine that – be yourself, get the RIGHT people viewing your website and blogs, and maybe, just maybe, start making REAL connections with people! If you have been trying to Brand yourself as a leader (of anything, and in any Industry), being yourself can mean the difference between just blogging along, and financial freedom.

That’s not to say it’s just about the money. Some people are happy with where they are financially, and are looking for a different kind of currency or connection in this life. In that case, being yourself ON and OFF line, can make a difference in your relationships with others, your Spiritual expression, and everything else this life has to offer.

So…..Who Are You? Really? And What Do You Want? Really? The only way to find out, is through self development. It’s work, or pleasure, depending on how you look at it.

I will be sharing some of my favorite resources for Self Development, and ideas to work with, in the coming posts. So, stay tuned! Sign up to get this information in your inbox, and don’t miss a thing!
